How To Keep Your Strength While You Cut Weight!
Have you ever starved yourself all day when you have to make weight later in the day?
It sucks!
You feel light-headed, weak, irritable, and hungry. Then you rely on stuffing food into your body and consuming Sports Drinks to try to get your strength back.
But the problem is that you don’t get all of your strength back for 24-36 hours after you make weight.
Here’s a little trick I learned about 20 years ago that you can use to keep your strength while cutting weight.
It’s my magic ‘Protein Paste!’
Here’s what you do… take 2 scoops of Whey Protein and place them in a cup. (You can use J. Robb protein or Prograde as good, natural brands that are really good quality) Then you add a little bit of water… just enough to stir into the protein powder to make a paste.
While you’re ‘not eating’ throughout the day of weigh-ins, take a small spoonful of the paste throughout the afternoon and eat it. It might not taste like chocolate pudding but it will help you:
1. Keep a Positive Nitrogen Balance – You’ll keep strong and avoid the crash and fatigue that you usually feel when starving to make weight without adding weight.
2. Keep a Steady Supply of Amino Acids – Your muscles will have the fuel they need to keep strong due to the rapid absorption of a predigested protein powder. This is important for helping you wrestle with energy.
This is a golden tip that I learned back in Buffalo, NY in the late 80′s… it really helps you avoid that ‘crash’ you feel when cutting weight.

I have to make 155 in about 4 weeks for my first MMA fight and I’ll definitely be sampling this Protein Paste the night before and the day of weigh-ins!
