Wrestling Wins Again In UFC 111!
Once again George “Rush” St. Pierre showed why he is arguably considered the pound for pound best fighter…
But Saturday night’s beat-down of Dan Hardy wasn’t done with hammer fists, and spinning back-kicks. It was done with his lethal combination of wrestling takedowns and heavy Jui Jitsu… hell, he almost ripped Dan Hardy’s arm clear out of its socket. Amazingly, Dan wouldn’t tap. I mean, he’s the kind of guy that would rather have you snap his arm in half then tap!
Ultimately, it was his takedowns that controlled this UFC fight.
He is unstoppable.
Granted, Dan Hardy doesn’t have much of a wrestling background and that’s unacceptable these days in Mixed Martial Arts. But George St. Pierre looks like he can take down anybody.
There are a few things that you’ll notice that give him that decisive advantage:
- He has very strong Hamstrings. The strength of his Hammies allows him to spring from his stance like a Cobra.
- He has very strong internal obliques. George has a high conditioning level and it shows. But you’ll notice that his core is beyond developed. He generates amazing speed by the Obliques strength along with the Hamstrings.
- He has complete muscular balance. The guy has no weaknesses. That’s why shooting a takedown is effortless for him. (Don’t forget… he NEVER wrestled in High School or College. )
This is why I constantly tell wrestlers to stop bodybuilding and get wrestling-specific with your training.
